Another Colombian Emerald:
The Work of Catalina Estrada

hrblog_catalinaestrada1

I first came across with her work a couple of years ago as I was just getting acquainted with graphic design, I cannot specifically remember how I first learned about her, it was probably in some random website. A few months later she was featured in Communication arts -the Mecca of visual art publication- Looking at her work made me realize that it’s certainly possible to create substantial art using digital media.

Her work is best described as being exuberant, combining her taste for traditional Hispanic folk art influenced by contemporary Asian trends. She often favors floral shapes and botanical ornaments along with her own characters, which to some may be reminiscent of the decorative Arts & Crafts movement. She’s largely inspired by her travels, literature, music, fairytales as well as family and childhood experiences playing in nature in the mountains of ever beautiful Colombia.

Currently, Catalina Estrada makes her living as an illustrator; in 1999 she moved to Barcelona, (Spain)and has been living there ever since.
