"The World According to Shorts"
This short film completely blew me off my mind as I was watching it, how cool it is to have your imagination being seduced and altered at the same time without the usual imagery and trends we are so familiarized with! one of the things I like so much about this film is how it lets us digest what we are seeing, though the special effects are obvious, I cannot help admiring how nice it is to not be bombarded with many images, and rather focus out attention in one single character at the time.
Directed by Daniel Askill, a young Australian filmmaker who already has international recognition for directing commercials, music videos as well as short films, ”We Have Decided Not to Die” conveys three Rituals, each represented with an independent Figure. This Short film makes reference to that mental state in which logic vanishes and anything can happen.
Askill began his creative journey as a design student in Sydney, and later on he moved to London, where he continued at Central Saint Martin; before completing his studies, he was appointed creative director at Agency Williams. During his time at the agency, Askill took a large variety of projects, ranging from web design to even directing his first commercial, which was commissioned by Alfred Dunhill, and introduced him to do more work within the fashion industry throughout numerous locations around the world. In 2001 Daniel Askill was back at Sydney and co-founded Collider. (Check out the sources links above to visit collider.com) At Collider, he has reached to the attention of MTV, Virgin, Warner Music & 2day FM; and has continued developing more award winning personal film projects.
